Rosa de Sarón was one
of the first LACC school established in Nicaragua and the first in
Zavalete, a mountain community with very limited accessibility.
Truck bringing building supplies could only get within 12 miles
of the school site, so the community worked together to transport the
materials by donkey, hand cart, and whatever means possible.
It helped to create a sense of community ownership of the school.
Teachers won’t come to Zavalete, so the school has to train their own
teachers! But, they do such
a good job of it that many former teachers are now employed with the
Department of Education in Nicaragua.
They have recently opened a distance school for high school to allow
children even more remote than Zavalete to be able to earn a high school
diploma.
The pastor describes the school as a seed planter.
It has planted and is now producing, but they want to continue
planting! His dream is to
add 5 more classrooms so that it can become a full school.
