In 1998 Hurricane Mitch hit Nicaragua.
The torrential downpour caused the side of a crater lake to fail
sending a massive wave of mud down the mountain completely destroying
communities in a 50 mile area.
The surviving members of one of these communities were relocated
to the new community of Posoltega.
These people literally had nothing but their lives to begin their
lives anew.
From this sprang up a little school held in a tent under a tree called
Bethesda. Many of the
students were orphans whose parents had died in the mudslide.
To see it now is amazing with many classrooms, playground, and
wall property.
Bethesda has been awarded 1 of only 3 prestigious “excellence” awards
given in the region and has received recognition for its teaching in
Math. The leadership dreams
of being able to have a secondary school there soon and a computer lab.
